But on a brighter note, I did kick my weekend off right by watching the Orson Welles Jane Eyre last night. It was fantastic! I didn't expect to be sucked in but the filmmaking and acting were top-notch. I love Welles, Joan Fontaine, and Jane Eyre, so for me it was a delicious concoction. I'll have more to say about the arrangement of characters and plot and alterations and modifications at a later date. But I heartily recommend it--and at an hour and a half, it's a small commitment with a great reward.

A Very Bronte Weekend to You
There's much to catch up on, as always, but I'm going off to the moors of Yorkshire the cobblestoned streets of Boston for the weekend and will have to postpone all thoughts til I return. This includes, unfortunately, a review of WH 2008. I was dying to be able to live-blog Wuthering Heights on Sunday night, but I'm going to be on the road then, so Monday it will be.

I remember watching Jane Eyre on television back in about 1964. My mother was watching it with me. During one of the movie's very touching moments, my mother suddenly piped up with "Doesn't he (Welles) have the most beautiful hands?" Well. There went the mood. ;>) I still love the movie, though.
ReplyDeleteI don't quite know what to make of this latest version of Wuthering Heights. Though I have written several reviews, I shall wait until next week's airing to decide if I like the changes the writer and director made to Emily Bronte's plot.
