Comfy shoesies.

The folks at Shakesville are talking about shoes and I love it. I just got a new pair of sandals at aerosoles of all places, after the heels I got there for 29 bucks ended up being the first pair of heels I could walk in since 8th grade.

Here they are:
How many pairs of shoes do you have, readers? What are your faves?

Crocs Talk

fellow-ette: did you hear what happened to my CROCS today?
the ones i got wichu and [fellow-ette's boyfriend]?

fellow-ette's brother: no what happened?
i haven't checked the crocs message board yet
didnt hear
me: hahaha
i was going up an escalator
and it smooshed the front of my shoes
or one shoe
and it got stuck
10:37 PM so i pulled my foot out
and half the croc stayed in the escalator
the whole front got ripped out
10:38 PM it was sad!!!
10:40 PM bro: thak god you're okay
did your foot get pulled towards the escalator as well;
that is so scary
10:42 PM me: yeah i thought i might break a toe
it's lucky the shoes were so soft
they just ripped instead of hurting me
bro: be careful puhleaseeee!
10:43 PM lucky there was no strap on top or something
did it catch as soon as u got on?
could u still see it or was it sucked in?
10:45 PM me: it was on the way off
and no, the escalator just kept going

Yes, readers dear... that is the story of my continuing shoe saga. I finally find a pair of comfy, nice shoes I actually like, and they get mauled by an escalator. And this was within an hour of a business appointment, so I had to buy a pair of ultra-reduced Steve Madden flats off the clearance rack and they made me feel like I understood the pain of Chinese foot-binding. Ow!! Why are shoes so oppressive?

In Defense of Crocs

That's my shoe!

The NYT has one of its usual silly wishy-washy articles, this time about Crocs: "some people reeeally like em, some totally don't" seems to be the thesis. Well, let me say, readers dear, that I am firmly on the pro-Crocs side of things. And the fact that they are so popular is less about the shoes' goofy aesthetics and more about people who don't want their goddamn feet to hurt all the time. It's a revolution! Fuck you, fashion-industry-of-pain.

Ad I will add that on my European sojourn, I noticed more than a few Crocs on the feet of non-Americans in swanky locales, proving that the appeal is spreading.

Also once more, I point out to my audience that the Crocs co. has come up with some very appealing styles for the more self-conscious feet in the crowd. Check them out at www.Crocs.com and down with the haters!

Holla-ing at you

Fellow-ette's been mad busy yo. I have three jobs now and three other lesser freelancing gigs (which means SIX bosses when it comes down to it--rather intense) and have been gallivanting about a bit--cold Boston, sunny San Fran. Also, one of my new thingies is writing for a soon-to-be-annoucned other thingy publication, which means perusing tons of blogs and articles and writing snappy thingies about them. Which kind of drains some of my energy that might otherwise be directed into my own vanity bloggin'.

Also, I've discovered Bloglines, the best invention ever. And let's be honest; I'd rather spend my time reading Feministing, Ms. Snark, Pandagon and Kos than writing my own cogent analysis. This truth may or may not amount to some sort of signifier of my personal shortcomings, but whatever. These people are serious fucking bloggers yo. And they've essentially replaced the MSM (that's mainstream media, see how much I've learned) for me, because the New York Times' politcial coverage sort of majorly SUCKS these days.

But also, good shit is slowly happening in my actual book-reviewing: I had my first book review published in a national glossy (yay! it was a very indie glossy but still cool) and I have an upcoming gig reviewing fiction for like, one of the the major publications that reviews fiction before it is actually released. THINK OF THE POWER I SHALL HAVE. But no worries readers dear, I shall use it wisely, for someday my crappy debut novel will be in the hands of someone just like me. It will kind of be like me reviewing me, which probably doesn't happen enough at the moment. Hoo-hah.

Also, I've bought myself not one, but TWO pairs of new, trendier, Crocs. Which may be the best news of all. Anyone whose tootsies have suffered through a hot NYC summer knows what I'm talkin' bout. Never tell me comfort isn't cool.
