With Every Silenced Women's Voice, a New One Pipes Up.

A cool new women's mag that tries to subvert the old glossy mag paradigm:

As We Are Magazine

"As We Are" is all about "issues and ideas that support the belief that we are good enough as you are right now! " Visit them www.aswearemagazine.com for their content including articles, blogs, podcasts and the like.

By clicking through from EBC, you are helping me, fellow-ette compete for a prize. But I'm not going to win it. So more importantly, you are helping create a community of women who are sick of the corporate media's treatment of us chicks as nothing more than cream-buying, self-hating mamas-to-be.

    Thanks for the plug!

How do I know you posted this? Because people have already clicked through from your site... so you may be a winner! (in my worst Ed McMahon voice)

    fellow-ette, you wrote:

But if there's one thing I'm sure of, it's that it's safe to bet that almost all women are "mamas-to-be."

    Why deny this?

As for self-hating, well, it was once observed by H.L. Mencken that "the only people women hate more than men are other women."

Meanwhile, I've heard many women say that life would be so much easier if they were men. It's too bad this sentiment is as widespread as it seems to be.

    Cream-buying? You got me there.

As for corporate media's treatment of chicks, well, aren't women in charge of that?

Isn't the editor-in-chief of every women's magazine a woman? Aren't the staffs largely female?

Lastly, your title -- With Every Silenced Women's Voice, a New One Pipes Up -- is disturbing.

It's as though you think there's a conspiracy at work to keep women from whatever it is they want.

But I'm pretty sure the buyers of women's magazines and everything that goes with womanhood are women. If they're not buying, then the product isn't right.

I've never bought a copy of Jane Magazine. I guess women stopped buying it as well.

Why, in your view, is that the equivalent of "silencing"?

When men's magazines fail, we emotionless guys look at the numbers and say, well, looks like expenses exceeded revenue. Then we note our interest, or lack of it, in the content.

No guy ever says or thinks that nefarious corporate forces SILENCED his favorite glossy.
